A NOTE TO PONDER
My Gramma was known far and wide for her "green thumb". Indeed so many people had said it, that when we were little, my brothers and cousins and I tried to be the first to see this legendary quirk of nature, that she assured us only came out at certain times, especially in the Spring. She had gardened her whole life and taught me her love of plants, both wild and domesticated, so to her this site is dedicated.
As I got older, I figured out the joke, having been bit by the same bug. My first gardens were certainly learning experiences, and she helped from a distance, keeping me on track but not interfering, knowing that hands on was the nature of the craft and the only way to learn. Later, when I was deeply entrenched in the business, I had a moment to laugh with her about green thumb joke from when we were young. However I did wonder at her garden, bursting as usual with vim and vigor and all kinds of interesting plants. I asked her what exactly was the source of her legendary thumb, and was expecting a lengthy answer.
She only said one word: "Water".
So while the plants here are largely care free, and are selected by experience to do the best in the area, keep an eye on things if you want a good garden. This is especially true during the first few years as the plants become established. If you notice plants are wilting under a 100 degree day and it hasn't rained in a couple of weeks or more, its best to follow my Gramma's advice. A good soaking will give an edge to your plants so you can enjoy them for many years to come!
